Friskies Explorer AmandaMA asks:
I keep finding areas on the floor where someone has peed, mostly in corners, on piles of blankets, I have narrowed it down to three cats, I have 7, they do use the litterbox too, sometimes I catch them at it, sometimes I find it while vacuuming. I have had them tested for crystals and so on which came back all clear, any suggestions on how to get the peeing to stop?
Elimination outside of the litter box is a complex issues because it can have so many causes. You did the best thing as your first step though. It’s crucial to rule out any possible medical causes so I’m so glad you took them to the veterinarian.
With the number of cats you have, there might be some multicat tension going on. You didn’t mention how many litter boxes you have but with 7 cats you should have at least 7 boxes. When there’s an elimination problem going on I would even recommend that you increase that number by 1. The other consideration is location. The boxes should be scattered throughout the house so one cat doesn’t have to pass through an opponent cat’s turf. The boxes should also be uncovered and not wedged in corners or in closets to allow for maximum escape potential.
