Fall Fun for Felines

After weeks and weeks of temperatures in the high 90’s and even many days where the thermometer went over 100, I’m really for Fall. It’s my favorite time of year. I also enjoy the fun things Fall brings that my cat can enjoy.
As trees start losing their leaves, grab a bunch and place them in a box for your cat to enjoy. My cat, Pearl, loves to hop in the box and pounce on the leaves. She loves the crinkly sound they make and she loves diving underneath them. This may be something your cat might enjoy as well. Get enough leaves so your cat can bury herself underneath them.
When I bring leaves in for Pearl I love to watch her enjoy them with all of her senses. Her nose goes into over-drive as she sniffs all the interesting scents on the leaves. Her ears perk up as she hears the rustling and crinkly sounds they make. I’m sure her paws must enjoy the different texture as well. She even licks a few of the leaves. And the best part is when I grab a handful of leaves and toss them in the air. She watches them and then picks one in particular to pounce on.
To up the fun factor, drop a walnut (in the shell) in the box as well so kitty has something to play with in the leaves.
Pick leaves that are clean before bringing them into the house. I carefully look to make sure there are no bird droppings on them or anything else I wouldn’t want my cat to come in contact with.
Have you ever brought leaves in the house for your cat’s entertainment?
