Making Food Fun

Last month, we featured a video from Pam Johnson Bennett about puzzle feeders – a toy that helps turn mealtime into playtime. The video really got me thinking about how I could make mealtime more of a sensory experience for Wellington (especially since he normally inhales his food within minutes of me giving it to him).
So I started using a similar product called the Go! Cat! Go! Play-N-Treat Ball instead of the standard bowl. I originally bought the ball to use with treats, but after watching Pam’s video, I figured I’d give it a try with food. Wellington seems to really enjoy it, plus I like that he has to do a little work to get his dinner. It took him a day or two to figure it out, but now he’s got the hang of it. It’s actually pretty cool to watch how he interacts with the ball – sometimes he’ll scoot it with his nose and sometimes he’ll bat it around between his paws. Luckily he hasn’t figured out how to roll the empty ball over to me when he wants a refill, although I’m sure it won’t take long!
Have you come up with any creative ways to make mealtime more fun for your cat?
