Where’s The Party?

This is the time of year when we’re so busy with holidays, visiting family, decorating, entertaining, and being on the go. Your cat, being a creature of habit, is well aware of the potential changes in your normal schedule.
To help my cats with any confusion they might be feeling this time of year, I make sure to take time from the whirlwind of holiday activities to have a cat party. Don’t panic, I’m not suggesting you invite all the neighbors’ cats over – I’m referring to a party that includes only you and your own kitties.
I’m pretty good about maintaining a stimulating and fun environment for my cats, and I normally play with them on a regular basis, but during the hectic holiday season, I make an extra effort to make sure my three kitties are getting all the attention and fun they deserve. I set up fun paper bag tunnels and turn cardboard boxes into opportunities to explore for treats and rewards. I also tub a little catnip on the scratching posts to give them a renewed appeal.
I increase my interactive playtime schedule with my cats during the holidays to help with any anxiety they might be feeling. Even a five-minute play session can make a difference. So before I go out the door to grandma’s house or to that holiday party, I take time for a game with a fishing pole or to roll ping pong balls down the hallway.
After all, cats just want to have fun, too!
Happy holidays to you and your kitties.
