Poll: Does Your Cat Celebrate the Holidays?

Image

Do your holiday plans include your cat? Whether it’s a special meal on Thanksgiving or a festive holiday gift, we want to know what you do to celebrate the holiday season with your cat.

For example, my friend Meredith always gives her cat Maddy a special can of wet food on Thanksgiving to enjoy while everyone else is eating. And last year, I got Wellington a little stocking filled with all sorts of cat toys. Of course he liked the toys, but he seemed to prefer the wrapping paper that littered the living room floor. Figures!

What special things do you do to add cheer to your cat’s holiday season? Let us know in the comment section!

Daisy has been with us for three years now, and she always gets some extra treats and toys from us, and from both my parents and my husband's parents. Sunny (3 months) came home with me a week ago, and I'm sure she'll be just as spoiled on Christmas Day as Daisy has been. Right now she's pretty excited about that big cat toy in the corner...err...the Christmas tree. :)

I have a small cat colony outside. I have taken in 3 of them as housepets and they are spoiled plenty. The outside kitties are all spay/neutered thanks to the help of local organizations/donations. I will buy them Christmas kitty stockings with jingle balls & catnip treats. Last year they got a kitty teepee to keep them warm in the winter months. It's so cute to see them poke their heads out of the teepee. They will get special turkey cat food for Thanksgiving.

My 3 cats and 9 month old kitten will get special toys Christmas morning. I usually buy them furry mice and catnip pillows. I have some especially in mind for my kitten. Kiri, my kitten, also got dressed in a Santa's hat and will be my Christmas card. All of the cats have little stockings that I have on my railing. They are all wonderful and a great joy. I am truly blessed!

My four cats and I celebrate in a different way ... We do have special foods and extras treat and new toys. I take a lot of the money that I would spend on expensive items that my cats don't know they lack, and give it to three local cat rescue groups. My kitties are so special that I want every cat to have the opportunity to get a loving home, and give their special love.

I love the holidays, but no matter what I get my 2 kitties, a cardboard box with catnip in it seems to be the best present ever. Like any kid, the toy gets buried in paper or hidden under the couch and the box becomes the intrigue. One toy I bought at Walgreens for $1.99 is a cartoon cat with a pouch. In the pouch is a packet of catnip. This is the only store bought toy my cat loves. Stick with aluminum balls, cardboard boxes, ribbons and tissue paper. The cats don't know it's free!

I don't spend Thanksgiving at home but my cats will get a special treat when I get home. I usually save a little bit of gravy for them and sprinkle it on their food. I'm afraid to give them much more than that because the two of them have sensitive stomachs. For Christmas, I get them a new toy and they also get their own stockings filled with kitty treats and catnip. I love my kitties! They're part of the family so they're included in the celebration.

We have always given gifts to my daughter from her "sisters". I usually set the presents out and have the cats come over to look at them. Which ever gift each one loves or lays on, that is the gift they give to my daughter. We also do a gift for the girls in such things like special food, cat milk, a few toys, treats. Their gifts are usually to apologize for us torturing them with the santa hats and reindeer antlers. One of my cats loves to help with gift wrapping.

Not to put a dent in the huge Cat Toy business, but our cats are just as happy w/ the wrapping paper and ribbons from our presents (usually recycled from last year) as they are w/ new toys. Refreshing their old toys w/ Fresh Catnip (preferably Home Grown) is also considered a treat by our kitties. In these days of Reuse and Recycle, this is the best way to go instead of buying new toys every year that just end up in the already cluttered toy basket.
